Thieves Caught Red-Handed
In February 2024, Hamman received an alarm notification on the FarmRanger app, indicating that his sheep were being disturbed. He investigated and initially found everything in order. However, the incident repeated itself, and after the third occurrence, he suspected something unusual was going on.
“I contacted four neighbours and explained the situation. We drove to the camp and used night-vision equipment to locate the stock thieves’ hiding place. They were hiding behind bushes in an adjacent camp,” Hamman explains.
After each alarm, the thieves watched Pieter as he investigated and then drove off—only then did they attempt to catch the sheep. With the help of his neighbours and the SAPS, the thieves were caught and sentenced.
